Must Haves travel gear for europe

We just spent 45 days in Italy, and we quickly discovered what we should have brought and what we needed most! Below are the must-haves for us and anyone traveling to Europe.

Electrical

As you know, you can't just take your cell phone charger or flat iron to Europe and just plug them in when you get there. You need to plan to make your 110v appliances work on their 220v electricity.

Universal Travel Converter

This item will convert the 220V to 110V so you can plug in all your items to charge without frying them as I did years ago.

NOTE: The converter is not strong enough to handle appliances that heat up such as dryers and flat irons.

Fast Charger

This 3-in-1 charger is perfect for travel. It folds flat for the suitcase and will charge your iphone, watch and headphones. They also offer one just for the phone and or for the phone and watch.

BTW this is what we use beside our beds in the RV. So its not just for travel!

Dual Voltage flat iron

The last time we were in Europe I fried my flat iron when I plugged it into the wall with just a plug adaptor.

Not this year! This flat iron will convert to either 220v or 110v. It was inexpensive and worked great.

Safety

We have all heard the horror stories of people having their passports and money stolen while traveling abroad. It does happen. As a matter of fact, I (Stacy) was hit by a pickpocket in Barcelona years ago. They took $500 but, luckily, didn’t take any of my IDs. The items below are what we used to help combat the pickpockets and skimmers.

anti-theft backpack

I used this backpack as my purse in Italy. It was the cutest one I could find that also has RFID protection, anti-cut straps and slash proof panels. It also has hard to open zippers to deter pickpockets. It worked perfectly!

RFID Credit card protectors

A few years ago when we were in London we saw someone with a skimmer swiping people’s purses and back pockets to steal credit card information. It was very eye opening. Since that time we have used these to protect ourselves from skimmers. We would not travel without them.

rfid passport protectors

Prevents skimming from your passports and credit cards. It is also protects your passport while traveling.

MISCELLANEOUS travel necessities

Travel bottles

This was my 3rd attempt at travel bottles and they totally rock. What I love most is the vacuum plug that rises as you use the liquid. They are also completely leak proof and meet the requirements for TSA.

Laundry sheets

We tossed about 12 of these in a ziplock bag so we could do laundry at our VRBO. They were perfect. We didn’t worry about them leaking and they took up almost no space in our suitcase! PS: We have been using them in the RV for a year. LOVE LOVE

DISINFECTING wipes

These are a must when traveling! Use them to clean the seat on the plane, remote control in the hotel and everything in between!

our Favorite luggage

We have been singing the praises of our Ebags for over 10 years! They are made to work together so the backpacks can attach to the roller bag. They are small enough to be carry-ons so you don’t have to check bags (which we usually prefer). We love these bags. They are perfect for all kinds of travel. We have linked them on Amazon, but sometimes you can find them cheaper on the ebag website.

Mother lode backpack

You won’t believe how much you can fit into this backpack. We have used it several times as our only bag while traveling to Europe. Its small enough to be a carryon but holds literally the Mother Lode!

Weekender computer bag

We have been using this for our computer and camera gear for years. Its durable and has a lifetime warranty. we love it.

Roller ebag

Use as a backpack or roll with ease. Both of our ebags will fit over the handle of this one for easy travel through the airport.

What we should have brought

Chargers

We used our phones for everything, including researching restaurants, directions, bus routes, you name it. So our phones were constantly dying! There were four of us on the trip, and we had to negotiate who would research what to ensure we had at least one phone to get us back to our epic Italian villa at the end of the night. We even took turns turning off our phones during the day. The items below would help prevent your phone from dying!

Mophie charger

Charge your phone by popping this on the back whenever you need a charge. It is strong enough to power through thin cases.

phone case and charger

Phil has been using this case for years. Its a mophie phone case that will provide a full charge to your cell phone. Needless to say he hardly ever ran out of battery on this trip!

Portable charger

This charger is small enough to fit in a purse or pocket and will provide a quick charge to any phone.

plan ahead

Having the right gear will make your trip more enjoyable and memorable while also keeping you safe. But ultimately, what matters most is that you have an incredible time and create lasting memories during your travels. Now it’s time to get on with planning your trip and those gorgeous European views! Caoi!
