If you’ve heard anything about Fredericksburg, it’s probably the wine, and yep, it totally lives up to the hype! With more than 75 wineries, vineyards, and tasting rooms scattered around town, it’s basically Texas Wine Heaven. Most are along Highway 290, nicknamed Wine Road (and once you drive it, you’ll see why). But here’s the thing, Fredericksburg isn’t just about wine. There’s so much more to explore! From cute shops and museums to hiking trails and restaurants, this town is full of surprises.

So if you’re heading to Fredericksburg soon, here are some of our favorite spots and experiences you won’t want to miss. Whether you’re here for the wine, the views, or the small-town charm, there’s something for everyone.

Main Street Shopping

Shops on Main Street

Shops on Main Street

Main Street is the heart of Fredericksburg. Strolling through the shops is half the fun of visiting. You’ll find everything from vintage treasures and handmade crafts to local wines and Texas-style décor. The best part? You can take your time, pop in and out of boutiques, and just enjoy the easy, welcoming vibe of this little Hill Country town.

Fredericksburg Food Scene

Sunday Supply

You can’t talk about Fredericksburg without mentioning the food. It’s a delicious mix of old-world German flavor and fresh Hill Country creativity. Whether you’re craving schnitzel and a cold beer at one of the classic German restaurants or farm-to-table dishes with a Texas twist. Honestly, there’s no shortage of great spots to eat.

Grab breakfast at a cozy café, lunch on a sunny patio, or dinner under the stars with live music in the background. And don’t skip dessert from homemade pies to local peach ice cream, Fredericksburg knows how to feed your stomach as much as your soul.

Fredericksburg Music Scene

Fredericksburg has a heartbeat and you can hear it in the music. Whether it’s a local band jamming on a patio downtown or a country legend playing under the Texas stars, the Hill Country knows how to put on a show.

Luckenbach, Texas

And, of course, no music lover can skip Luckenbach, Texas! It’s just a short drive from town, but a world of its own. You’ve heard the song “Let’s go to Luckenbach, Texas…”, now live it. Grab a cold beer, kick back under the oak trees, and listen to live music drifting from the famous dance hall. It’s the kind of place where strangers become friends by the second chorus.

Fredericksburg’s music scene is all about good vibes with a little country, a little rock, and a little Americana all mixed in.

Although we have these places listed, you can catch live music at many of the restaurants, bars, and wineries around town. Check the business website for their music schedule.

Fredericksburg Wineries (I didn’t forget)

Fredericksburg, Texas Wineries

Fredericksburg. With more than 75 wineries, vineyards, and tasting rooms scattered along the scenic Highway 290 Wine Trail, it’s basically Napa with a Texas accent. Each stop has its own personality, from rustic barn-style tasting rooms to sleek modern vineyards with sweeping Hill Country views.

You can sip bold reds, crisp whites, or a local rosé while chatting with winemakers who treat you like old friends. Even if wine isn’t your thing, the views alone are worth the visit. Just plan ahead. It’s easy to lose track of time when every stop feels like your new favorite.

Outdoor Activities

Enchanted Rock State Natural Area

Sure, Fredericksburg has history, but it also has views. Big, beautiful, Texas sized views. If you haven’t been to Enchanted Rock, put it at the top of your list. Hike it, climb it, or just catch your breath at the top while watching the sunset paint the sky.

And come springtime? The Hill Country wildflowers steal the show. You’ll find yourself stopping every few miles just to take another photo (trust me, it happens to everyone).

History and Culture

Vereins Kirche Museum

If you love a good mix of history and charm, Fredericksburg delivers. This town’s been around since 1846, and you can still feel its German heritage in everything from the architecture to the bratwurst. You can spend an afternoon exploring museums, wandering old streets, or joining in one of the town’s many cultural festivals. It’s history, but with more polka music and pretzels. 🥨🎶

  • Oktoberfest (October): German heritage, bratwursts, oompah bands, and beer tents right in town. This is my favorite! It's fun and lively, and everyone has a great time.

  • Fredericksburg Food & Wine Festival (October): A foodie’s dream: wine, gourmet bites, cooking demos, and Hill Country flavor all in one place.

  • Gillespie County Fair (August): Classic fair fun with rides, livestock shows, horse races, and that all-American county fair vibe.
