Yosemite National Park RV Campgrounds

Are you heading to Yosemite National Park to see the Sierra Nevadas, epic waterfalls, breathtaking views, and giant sequoias that appear to touch the heavens?? If you are planning a camping trip to this beautiful national park you have come to the right place. We have compiled everything you need to know before you book your campsite all in one spot! So let’s just dive right in!

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK CAMPGROUNDS

Book Early

The most important thing you need to know about Yosemite RV campgrounds is to book early. These campgrounds fill up fast so if you want to stay inside the park plan ahead. Yosemite opens reservations for its campgrounds five months out on the 15th of each month at 7 am pacific time. The campsites can book up in minutes. I recommend you sit at your computer and be ready to book the moment the sites are released. But even this won’t guarantee a site large enough to accommodate your RV. But it’s your best option!

Campground Reservations

Reservations for all Yosemite campgrounds can be made at Recreation.gov.

Camping season

Yosemite cgs.jpg

Yosemite has four campgrounds that are open all year.

  • Upper Pines

  • Camp 4 (Tent camping only)

  • Hodgdon Meadow

  • Wawona

The rest of the campgrounds are open seasonally based on their elevation (and COVID).

Campground Hookups

There are 13 campgrounds in Yosemite National Park and 9 of these campgrounds have sites for RVs. The campgrounds do not have hookups of any kind so you will be dry camping (no electric, water, or sewer hookups for your RV). Dump stations can be found at Upper Pines campground, Wawona Campground (Summer), and Tuolumne Meadows Campground (Summer).

Generator Usage

Generator use is permitted but only between the hours of 7 am to 9 am, noon to 2 pm, and 5 pm to 7 pm. Generator use is not permitted outside those hours.

Campground amenities

All of the campsites are equipped with a picnic table, a bear box, and a fire pit with a grill. Each RV campground also has vault toilets and either tap water. Looking for a bathhouse? There are only 2 in the park. They are located at Yosemite Valley in Curry Village and at Housekeeping Camp (closed for COVID in 2021).

pets

Pets are allowed in all of the RV campgrounds on a leash.

Will My RV Fit

Yosemite lists its campsite size by RV (motorhome) and trailer. The maximum trailer size provides an allowance for tow vehicles. Your RV and your vehicles must fit within the site. Extra parking spaces are not available and you will not be permitted to stay if you are too large for your site. They also will not be able to change your site as they will be booked up.

First Come, First Served

Traditionally, the higher elevation campgrounds are first come, first served but due to COVID many now require a reservation. Yosemite National Park has not announced the removal of the COVID restrictions for 2022 as of the release of this blog. I will make updates as they are announced.

Reservations for 2022 will be via a lottery system. This will be a test to determine if it will be used in the future for this campground as well as others. Only 10% of lottery entries are expected to land a campsite.

You can enter the lottery for the 2022 season from January 18- Feb 6. Winners will be announced on February 10th via email. There is a $10 nonrefundable application fee. More information on the lottery can be found on the Yosemite NP website.
