The Best Campgrounds Around Acadia National Park

Acadia National Park is a true outdoor paradise, offering stunning landscapes for every adventurer. From lush forests to beautiful beaches along the rocky coastline, plenty of unique camping experiences and adventures await you. We’ve rounded up some of the best campgrounds around Acadia National Park! This guide will help you pick the perfect place to lay your head while exploring the beauty Acadia National Park offers – let’s get planning!

Acadia National Park Campgrounds

Blackwoods Campground

Blackwoods Campground is located inside Acadia NP on the east side of Mount Desert Island, about 5 miles south of Bar Harbor on Rt. 3. All sites at Blackwoods are wooded and within a 10-minute walk to the ocean. 

These sites are dry camping only. The campground has 60 RV sites for RVs up to 25 feet. Amenities at the campground include flush toilets, running water, a dump station, picnic tables, and fire rings.

Blackwoods is open from May through mid-October. Tent and RV sites are $30 per night.

Seawall Campground

Seawall Campground is located inside Acadia NP on the west side of Mount Desert Island, about 4 miles south of Southwest Harbor. The campground is approximately 18 miles from Bar Harbor. All sites at Seawall are within a short walking distance of the coastline.

This campground was built for tent campers. So maneuvering RVs in the campground can be very difficult. Be sure to read campsite details carefully before reserving a site. The campground cannot change your site if you do not fit in your reserved site.

This campground offers over 50 dry camping sites for RVs up to 35 feet. Sites are $30 per night. Campground amenities include flush toilets, running water, a dump station, picnic tables, and fire rings.

Schoodic Woods Campground

Schoodic Woods sits inside Acadia NP, and it can accommodate RVs. With 41 sites for RVs only, you are close to popular National Park attractions where you can enjoy the quiet solitude of the forest. The campground is the newest in the park and 1.5 miles southeast of Winter Harbor on the Schoodic Peninsula. The campground is open between May and October.

Reservations can be made two months in advance. Sites are in the $20-$40 range, including primitive sites, tent/small RV sites, RV sites with electric only, and RV sites with electricity and water.

Bass Harbor Campground

Bass Harbor is another campground in Acadia National Park. This one is just a half mile from the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse. This campground offers 120 shaded and wooded sites for RVs, tents, and pop-ups. The campground also provides three yurts and eight cabins. Amenities include a dog run, heated pool, hot showers, cable TV, laundry, rec room, and camp store.

This campground is big rig friendly, up to 45 feet.

Duck Harbor Campground

Duck Harbor Campground is the place to camp if you want to rough it. It is located on Isle au Haut, a rugged island off the coast of Stonington, Maine. This island is remote and inaccessible to automobiles. Isle au Haut is linked to the mainland by mailboat.

This island campground has five lean-to shelters. The use of tents is limited to what can fit inside the shelters. You will also find a picnic table, composting toilet, and hand pump for water there. Maximum stay is 3 nights/four days per calendar year. 

You can only reach the island by ferry. It is a four-mile hike from the Isle au Haut Town Landing. Make sure you bring what you need. There is no store to purchase camping supplies.

Reservations for all Acadia National Park campgrounds are available two months in advance at recreation.gov. There are no on-site kiosks to pay for campsites.

Campgrounds around Acadia National Park

Wild Acadia RV Resort

I can’t say enough about Wild Acadia RV Resort in Trenton. Partly because I work camped there in the Summer of 2022. This brand-new park is about 25-30 minutes from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The campground has 90 level RV sites with plenty of shade. The campground offers large RV pull-throughs, tent sites, and cabins.

There is a pool with water slides and a splash zone. There is also a Fun Zone and a mini-golf course.

Amenities include a shower house with private showers, a laundry room, and a screened porch and rec room. These are great for tent campers who want to escape the rain and mosquitoes. With the price of your campsite, guests also receive complimentary tickets to the Fun Zone.

Mt. Desert Narrows Camping Resort

If you want to camp near the water, this Encore RV Resorts/Thousand Trails Park is a great place to park your RV. Not only can you enjoy the beautiful views, but there are plenty of amenities to keep you busy at the park. Enjoy a clubhouse, playground, game room, Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, and a small store. You can join one of the many planned events, such as ice cream socials and magic shows. You can also rent a cottage for up to six people.  

Mt. Desert is about 10 minutes outside Acadia and is big rig friendly.

Narrows Too Camping Resort

Narrows Too is another Encore RV Resorts/Thousand Trails property. Located in Bar Harbor, you can choose from 200 full hookup RV sites and more great ocean views. Because of its location, you can easily access a lobster hatchery, a living salt marsh, and the Mt. Desert Oceanarium. The park overlooks Mt. Desert Island, and amenities include Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, a picnic area, a swimming pool, a store, and a dog park.

Narrows Too is about 15 minutes from Acadia and is big rig friendly.

Bar Harbor/Oceanside KOA Holiday

As the only campground on the island's west side, the Oceanside KOA offers many family activities. Check out the camp store and bike rentals, propane, and firewood. A free shuttle takes you to Acadia National Park, and sites can accommodate RVs up to 70 feet long with 50-amp sites. The park also has Wi-Fi and a dog park. Tent sites and cabins are also available.

Oceanside is only 30 minutes outside Acadia NP.

Smuggler's Den Campground

With more than 100 sites for RV and tents, Smuggler's Den is a third-generation, family-owned campground. RV sites have full hookups, and showers at the campground bathhouse. Sites can accommodate RVs up to 45 feet. Rustic and deluxe cabin rentals are also available, as well as glamping.

The campground has a heated pool and a kiddie pool and is minutes from Acadia National Park, Sand Beach, Echo Lake Beach, and just a short drive to Bar Harbor.

Hadley's Point Campground

Hadley's Point Campground is on the northern point of Mt. Desert Island. Just minutes from the National Park's main entrance and downtown Bar Harbor, this is a great place to enjoy a quiet day relaxing or hop in the car and head out for some fun.

The campground has full hookup sites with free Wi-Fi, a heated pool, a playground, a camp store, a laundry facility, and a basketball court. A Sunday church service is offered on the grounds.

Hadley's Point is nearby with a boat launch and smooth gravel shoreline for launching a kayak if you like to boat or kayak. You can visit several islands, see the bird life, and see a seal or two making its way through the water.

MainStay Cottages & RV Park

MainStay has provided waterfront lodging in Winter Harbor for more than 40 years. See a traditional Maine fishing village during your stay or enjoy many dining options, art galleries, and gift shops nearby. This park is about 40 minutes from Acadia National Park.

Amenities include Wi-Fi, gas fireplaces, and bus services that will take you into town and Acadia. This campground is big rig friendly.

Timberland Acres RV Park

Timberland Acres is about 20 minutes from Acadia NP. The campground is family-owned and has been welcoming guests since 1985. This Downeast Maine destination boasts more than 70 pull-through and full hookup sites, with some accommodating rigs more than 100 feet long. Amenities include Wi-Fi, a propane fill station, a playground, a pool, laundry, and seasonal activities.
